Swot Analysis

Strenghts..

I think my strengths while completing this project was the whole research aspect, I completed this project at the best of my ability as I was able to research everything about spiders. I believe this is displayed through my sketchbook which is full with information.
I also think that because of the fact I had a lot of time to complete this project, I was able to take my time and not rush, therefore my drawings improved a lot.
My tutor also agreed with the fact that i had spent alot of time of collecting research and putting my sketchbook together nicely which reflects my overall mark.

Weaknesses...
My weaknesses within this project was probably the fact that I couldn't get the style/shape of my fashion figure for my layout sheets. I did manage in the end to create a figure which reflected my theme, however I still believe that it could of been even better. My fashion illustrations could of also been improved as they did look a little rushed and crowded, next time I would spend more time creating these and putting more effort into them.

I decided to base my first project on Spiders as I have a phobia of them and thought it would be interesting to find out the facts about spiders to attempt to overcome this fear!

I started to collect primary research by taking photos and drawing from them.
While researching this project I came across the idea of actually 'catching' a spider web and adding it to my sketchbook to show the fine detail of spider webs.

I visited the an exhibition at the Baltic as Tomas Saraceno had created a large installation of a Black Widow's web. He was inspired by scientists which create models of webs to examine their construction.

 Focusing on webs overall for my project I decided to use knitwear as my main fabric for my design development. I wanted a really fine, soft and delicate knitwear which i couldnt find anywhere from the shops...I decided to learn how to knit.

Using mohair I knitted small samples which I added onto my design development and into my sketchbook.

Roberto Cavalli was a real inspiration to my design development as he created a lingerie collection in 2011 incorporating crochet as his designs appeared almost likes spider webs.

His collection was inspired by 1970's hippie Los Angeles girl that hung out with rockstars.

Bora Aksu 2010 collection


Aksu's collection included delicte chiffon and undergarments exposed.
Her collection is furturistic and dramatic due to her sihoulette used. She also included web-like knits into her designs like Roberto Cavalli collection 2011.

I was very pleased with my overall mark for my first project which was based on spiders.
